CCGP Launches New Role Delineation Study for Geriatric Pharmacy Practice
The Commission for Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy has begun the periodic role delineation study for geriatric pharmacy practice. CCGP conducts this study, also known as a job analysis, every five years. The job analysis is a formal study designed to define the practice of geriatric pharmacy, and the outcome of the study is a content map for the Certified Geriatric Pharmacist examination.
The CCGP Examination Development Committee serves as the core group for the job analysis study, with input from other designated content experts. Applied Measurement Professionals, CCGP’s testing partner, will oversee the process. The Committee met on February 2-4, 2012 to begin development of a survey instrument, which will be used to gather input from geriatric pharmacists. The survey instrument is expected to be distributed in March/April 2012. The Committee will convene again in June 2012 to review the survey results and finalize the content map for the CGP examination. In January 2014, CCGP will launch a new CGP examination that is based upon this updated content map.
In preparing for the revised job analysis, the Committee reviewed key resource documents, including:
Geriatric Pharmacy Curriculum Guide, 2nd. Edition, American Society of Consultant Pharmacists
Council on Credentialing in Pharmacy, Scope of Contemporary Pharmacy Practice
Partnership for Health in Aging, Multidisciplinary Competencies in the Care of Older Adults
American Association of Colleges of Medicine, Geriatric Competencies for Medical Students
The Commission for Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy (CCGP) is a nonprofit corporation created in February 1997 by the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP). CCGP administers the certification program in geriatric pharmacy by establishing eligibility criteria and other program policies. CCGP is autonomous from ASCP, with its own governing Board of Commissioners. CCGP has over 1,700 CGPs, in the United States, Canada, Australia and several other countries.
