Fosnight Receives CCGP Award
Susan M. Fosnight, RPh, BCPS, CGP, has been chosen as the recipient of the 2012 CCGP Excellence in Geriatric Pharmacy Practice Award. Ms. Fosnight is associate professor of pharmacy practice at Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) and clinical lead pharmacist in geriatrics at Summa Health System.
The CCGP Excellence in Geriatric Pharmacy Practice Award recognizes the board-certified geriatric pharmacist who fosters the principles of good pharmacy practice; demonstrates excellence in geriatric patient care; and promotes the value and rigorous standards established by CCGP. The award was presented during the opening general session of the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists on November 7, 2012.
“Sue fosters and promotes exceptional pharmacy practice and excellence in geriatric care in ways too numerous to describe and has inspired me and other colleagues to pursue certification as Certified Geriatric Pharmacists,” said Chrisovalantis Paxos, PharmD, BCPP, CGP, assistant professor of pharmacy practice at NEOMED and pharmacotherapy specialist in psychiatry at Akron General Medical Center, who nominated her for this award. “I cannot think of a candidate more deserving of this honor.”
“With the preponderance of elderly patients in hospitals, Certified Geriatric Pharmacists are especially needed in the hospital setting,” said Thomas R. Clark, Executive Director of the Commission for Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy. “Susan Fosnight is an outstanding example of the kind of pharmacist that more hospitals need. We are very pleased that she was chosen as this year’s recipient.”
Fosnight graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy and has served in numerous pharmacy practice and administration roles in hospitals and health-systems across Ohio. She currently serves as president of the Ohio Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
The Commission for Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy (CCGP) is a nonprofit corporation created by the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP). CCGP, now in its 15th year, was created to oversee the certification program in geriatric pharmacy by establishing eligibility criteria and other program policies. CCGP is autonomous from ASCP, with its own governing Board of Commissioners, and is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies. Visit the CCGP Web site at www.ccgp.org.
