The Commission for Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy has signed an agreement with ASHP, an organization that represents pharmacists in acute and ambulatory settings, to serve as a provider of continuing education for recertification of Certified Geriatric Pharmacists. ASHP will develop a designated track of geriatric programs for this purpose. ASHP will join the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists as authorized providers for the CCGP Professional Development Program.
“Over the last five years, CCGP has almost doubled in size,” said CCGP Executive Director Thomas Clark, “now with over 2,800 Certified Geriatric Pharmacists. At the same time, the settings in which these pharmacists practice have become more diverse, with the hospital setting now representing the largest number of Certified Geriatric Pharmacists.”
“CCGP is very pleased to enter this collaboration with ASHP to support the needs of the growing hospital segment of our market,” said Mary Ann E. Zagaria, PharmD, MS, CGP, Chair of the CCGP Board of Commissioners. “ASHP is experienced in providing continuing education for board certification programs and has an excellent and established reputation among hospital pharmacists.”
The Commission for Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy (CCGP) is a nonprofit corporation created by the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) in 1997. CCGP offers a board certification examination in geriatric pharmacy practice. CCGP is autonomous from ASCP, with its own governing Board of Commissioners, and is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies.
